Thanksgiving will be here before we know it, and it’s such a great time to make fun crafts with the kids. It doesn’t get much more iconic than a paper bag turkey craft for kids!
Most parents I know remember making one of these themselves as children. Turkeys are truly the most iconic part of the Thanksgiving holiday! Whether you choose to make this paper bag turkey during a school Thanksgiving party, or use this craft at home to keep your little ones busy while you prepare Thanksgiving dinner, your kids are sure to love this easy craft.
Easy crafts are one of our family’s favorite things, especially this time of the year. Not only are they fun for the kids to make, but I love saving them and looking back at how their skills improve year after year.
This simple autumn craft is geared for kids 2-years-old and up. Younger children might need a little more help with this one, but if they can hold a glue stick they can do most of this craft independently after a grown up cuts out the pieces. This cute turkey craft is a simple activity that even older kids will enjoy making this holiday season.

How do you make a paper bag turkey?
Traditionally this turkey paper bag puppet craft is made out of construction paper, with the feather shapes made out of different colors. However, this simple craft was designed to require even LESS prep (and less materials).
Start by gathering all of your supplies and printing out the free printable turkey template. You can print this either on regular white paper or card stock. Card stock will give you sturdier pieces, but this craft will turn out great even just with regular paper.
Cut out all of the pieces as indicated. If you have preschoolers or elementary school age children, they can help cut out the pieces and work on their fine motor skills with supervision.
Assemble 7 feathers by layering the 3 sizes and gluing them together.
Glue the feathers onto the bottom flap of your bag in a fan shape.
Glue the turkey head piece onto the flap over the feathers.
Glue the chest feathers and legs onto the body piece. Then glue this onto the bag making sure you slide it a little under the head flap.
Finish off by adding the snood to the head first, then layer the beak and add the eyes last.
Feel free to let your child customize their turkeys! They can add glitter, feathers, extra googly eyes, whatever they want! This simple paper turkey can also double as a turkey puppet for additional imaginative play time.
This is a great craft to use in preschool classrooms as a project to celebrate Thanksgiving. This Paper Bag Turkey Craft for Kids was designed to be stress-free for adults! Just print, cut and lay out for little ones to craft independently with a glue stick.
Want to take this seasonal craft a step further? You can use the time spent with your child or students crafting this paper bag turkey to talk about giving thanks and different things they are grateful for.
If they’re old enough to participate, they can write what they’re grateful for on the turkey feathers (or you can do that for them). You can also use the back of the bag as a place to write these.
You can also do some turkey shape tracing for some extra Thanksgiving fun with this cute craft.
