You’ll fall in love with how easy and delicious these easy Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes are! They make the perfect side dish any time of the year.
I love recipes that are simple, easy and relatively hands off. There are so many busy weeknights where I get home and am exhausted, and the last thing I want to tackle is a complicated meal for my family.
I have completely fallen in love with how easy an air fryer makes so many dishes, and this easy Air Fryer Sweet Potatoes recipe was born out of that. They come out tender inside, crispy outside and yummy every time. This has become my favorite way to make seasoned sweet potatoes.
Sweet potatoes are also loaded with lots of fiber and potassium, making them a nutritious choice and healthy side dish for your family. Rich in beta-carotene and Vitamin A, they are also a great choice for meals if you are trying to choose items that are lower in calories.
Our family loves making baked potatoes, and do so frequently with The Perfect Crispy Baked Potato Recipe. But some nights, a yummy roasted sweet potato is calling my name. While they’re easy to make in the oven too, I’ve found that roasting them in the air fryer makes for a much more convenient meal.
Our family uses the regular sweet potatoes that you can find in your local grocery store. Not only does this make them easy to grab when you need them, but sweet potatoes have become a pantry staple in our home because these roasted air fryer sweet potatoes are such a great addition for our dinner table.

How to Make Roasted Sweet Potatoes in the Air Fryer
Before getting started, wash the sweet potatoes well with cold water. Pat dry with paper towels, and use a fork to poke several holes in each sweet potato.
Coat each sweet potato well with the olive oil.
In a mixing bowl, mix together the dry seasoning ingredients. If you are using a medium mixing bowl, sprinkle and thoroughly coat each potato. If you are using a large mixing bowl you can place the entire sweet potato in the bowl and toss to coat.
No bowl? Add the dry ingredients to a gallon freezer bag and coat the potatoes that way.
Spray the air fryer baskets with nonstick cooking spray. Place the sweet potatoes in the air fryer in a single layer. Depending on the size of your air fryer baskets and the size of the sweet potatoes, you might need to do more than one batch.
Air fry for 25-30 minutes at 390 degrees Fahrenheit, shaking the basket when halfway through. You’ll know they’re done when you insert a sharp knife and it comes out clean.
Remove from the basket and allow to cool slightly before slicing each sweet potato open lengthwise.
Serve with butter and thyme, or your favorite topping.

Tips for the Perfect Air Fryer Roasted Sweet Potatoes
Preheating the air fryer isn’t necessary, but I’ve found that it does help the potatoes cook more evenly. You might find that if you don’t preheat your air fryer you need to add a little bit of extra cook time.
I prefer to use my Ninja Foodi 6-in-1 10 Quart XL 2-Basket Air Fryer for this recipe, and all of our air fryer recipes. I’m completed obsessed with it. It has 2 large independent baskets that are big enough to fit a whole chicken! I love to cook 2 sweet potatoes on one side and a chicken on the other for an easy meal. It’s so worth the extra investment versus a small air fryer!
Be sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket. Leave room in between the sweet potatoes to allow for the air to properly circulate. Cook in batches if needed.
No need to boil the raw sweet potatoes before cooking!
You can also use this recipe to make sweet potato wedges or sweet potato chunks/ sweet potato cubes as an easy side dish. Just keep in mind that if you reduce the size of the sweet potato, you will also need less time to cook it. Start with 10-12 minutes to start and go from there.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
